The Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Dayo Akinbisehin, has arrested a 50-year-old man, Rasheed Adedeji, for allegedly beating his neighbour, Sefiu Ajao, to death in the Adamo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The incident was initially reported at the Imota Divisional Police Headquarters before being transferred to the Homicide Section of the SCID, where discreet investigation is ongoing.

Findings revealed that the incident occurred following a dispute involving the deceased’s son and the suspect’s son over a football.

Trouble began when Ajao, aged 40, of No. 2 Lejina Street in Adamo was confronted by Adedeji, a known boxer and his neighbour at No.15, Lejina Street, for tearing the football being used by the children during play.

The matter escalated and was taken before the local chief, the Baale of Lejina, who ordered Ajao to buy a replacement ball. However, as the deceased was on his way to purchase the new football, the suspect, Adedeji, allegedly confronted and punched him.

Ajao was said to have fallen unconscious due to the fist blow. He was later rushed to the General Hospital,

Imota, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. His body has since been deposited at the Ikorodu General Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Sources added that the suspect remains in custody at SCID Panti and will be charged to court for murder upon the conclusion of investigations.

The case is reminiscent of another incident involving one Shamelon in Lagos Island who reportedly beat a young man to death with a fist blow.
