Borno plans to improve IGR

From Timothy Olanrewaju, Maiduguri

The Borno State government has initiated plan to step up its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to help meet it’s target for the 2024 budget.

Commissioner for Budget and Planning Dr Babagana Malumbe disclosed at a press conference in Maiduguri on Monday.

Malumbe said the state expected a rise in the local revenue because of the government sustained efforts in revenue collection.

“Expected rise of local revenue collection as a result of sustenance and continues enforcement of payment of Ground Rent, and improving revenue generation of up to 25% annually,” the commissioner said.

Borno estimated to spend a total of N358.7 billion for the 2024 fiscal year.

The commissioner said government planned to invest in the development of agriculture through irrigation and other areas critical to the wellbeing of the people.

“Government will be making strategic investments in areas critical for sustained growth and development, such as Education, Healthcare, Works and Reconstruction,” he promised.

He also pledged to tackle the problem of double taxation and leakages in revenue collections.
