Bola Tinubu’s special birthday gift

Monday, February 18, was the 52nd birthday of Bola Tinubu, corporate lawyer wife of Group Chief Executive, Oando Plc, Jubril Adewale Tinubu. As a loving wife to one of Nigeria’s super billionaires, she can have a blowout bash to celebrate her new age. But unlike some of her colleagues married to deep pockets, Bola detests flashy lifestyle and prefers a fairly quiet life. She is not one of those trophy wives but have her own impressive credentials. She runs her own law firm, Olajide Oyewole LLP and remains one of the very few wealthy who are so passionate about changing the world. She has remained unshakable in her resolve to end child sexual abuse in Nigeria. In pursuit of this noble quest, she established the first free children’s helpline in Nigeria – Cece Yara Foundation. The foundation helps in the prevention of child sexual abuse, and has even opened the Cece Yara Child Advocacy Centre, a state-of-the-art Forensic Suite for children who have experienced sexual abuse, in Lagos. This great initiative earned her recognition among BBC’s 100 Women of 2018.

The list celebrates 100 inspiring and influential women ranging from age 15 to 94 from around the world including leaders, trailblazers and everyday heroes from over 60 countries. Not done, less than 24 hours into her birthday, Bola got a gift: she was elected as a fellow of another prestigious United Kingdom association, the ICSA: The Governance Institute. The Institute, a non-profit professional body championing high standards of governance develop the value, skills and effectiveness of company secretaries and governance professionals in all sectors. Excited Tinubu wrote on her social media platform: “Good governance for non-profits means better accountability, transparency and quality ratings.” Like a superwoman, Bola juggles between running her home, attending to her business tycoon hubby’s needs and still overseeing the need and welfare of her five lovely children.
