With the year starting on a good footing for him as he thrilled at the just concluded African Creators Summit with many people commenting on his electrifying performance, fast-rising Afrobeats act Elisha Yakubu Bani, popularly known as Blacksnow, is steadily positioning himself as one of the promising voices to watch in the industry.
The Bauchi-born, Lagos-raised singer delivered a high-energy set that left attendees buzzing, with many praising his stage command, raw vocals, and emotional delivery.
For an artist still carving his mainstream path, the reception at the summit signaled a significant leap forward.
Speaking after the performance, Blacksnow expressed gratitude for the growing support and shared his determination to keep pushing.
“This year is about building on the momentum. I want to keep entertaining people, keep improving my sound, and keep connecting with my fans on a deeper level.
The love at the African Creators Summit showed me that the world is ready, and I’m ready too,” he said.
Blacksnow’s story is one rooted in resilience and deep family values. Born in Bauchi State and raised in Lagos, he grew up in a home defined by sacrifice and unconditional love.
He often reflects on how his parents gave their all to ensure he and his siblings had opportunities, even when resources were limited.
Life, however, was not without its trials. When his family relocated back to Bauchi, he faced limited opportunities and had to take on farming, concrete work, and other menial jobs to survive.
Those experiences, he says, shaped both his character and the emotional honesty that now defines his music.
“At some point, I almost gave up and thought about leaving everything behind,” he recalled. “But meeting the CEO of PG Records changed my story. That moment felt like God saying, ‘It’s not over.’ It turned my nights into days and reignited my belief in my destiny.”
Though he officially stepped into the spotlight in 2023, Blacksnow had spent years behind the scenes, backing up other artists and studying the craft.
His first major exposure came at Small Doctor’s “Omo Beta” show, where he introduced audiences to his energetic and authentic presence.
Describing his sound as authentic, distinct, and spirit-led, Blacksnow draws inspiration from legends and modern greats like Fela Kuti, Burna Boy, Ruger, and Patoranking.
His creative process is mood-driven, allowing him to move seamlessly between love songs, reflective tunes, and high-energy anthems.
He recently collaborated with Tolibian on the track “Allah Is The Greatest,” further expanding his reach.
The name Blacksnow, he explains, reflects both his complexion and his personality — calm yet powerful. His brand stands for resilience, African pride, humility, and excellence. Currently, he is working on his debut EP titled “All Shades of Blacksnow (ASOB),” a project he says will reveal the many layers of his artistry.
Looking ahead, the singer remains focused and ambitious. “I see myself as one of the flag bearers of Afrobeats globally in the next five to ten years,” he said confidently. “But for now, I’m taking it step by step — dropping good music, giving unforgettable performances, and growing with my fans, the Black Tribe. We’re just getting started.”
