BOKO Haram insurgents have attacked a community near Chibok, Borno volatile town and looted foodstuffs. Residents of Chibok said some Boko Haram terrorists on motorcyles attacked Gatamarwa village near Chibok on Thursday at 5pm and opened fire.
“The insurgents were shooting sporadi- cally into the village and this forced many of the villagers to flee into the bush,” a resi- dent of Chibok told Saturday Sun on phone. Sources said the insurgents who came through Askira, a Borno southern town, looted foodstuffs and carted away some livestock. The insurgents held the ground in the town until arrival of military troops from nearby Chibok and Askira-Uba.
Commissioner of Police, Damian Chukwu confirmed the attack to journalists but did not give further details. He said he was yet to receive the detail of the attack from his men in the area.
Gatamwarwa is about 19 kilometres from Chibok town. The area has been attacked twice in November and December last year.
