NSC tasks Para Sports boards on accountability

Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the the National Sports Commission (NSC) has charged the newly elected members of  boards of 10 National Para Sports Federations to demonstrate leadership driven by action, accountability, and results over the next four years.

Dikko stated this at the inuaguration of members of the boards at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, on Wednesday in Abuja.

Dikko urged the new executives to justify the confidence reposed in them by focusing on purposeful leadership and tangible impact.

“My job is basically to support and endorse the newly elected leadership,  while that sports development must go beyond words and be anchored on passion, dedication, and measurable results,” he said.

He charged the federations to ensure accountability in their respective federations, noting that leaders must not only ask for support; they must also show what they are bringing to the table.

Dikko also called for unity and inclusiveness in sports administration, adding that nobody should be excluded as everyone has a role to play.

Also speaking, NSC Director-General Bukola Olopade, charged the newly inaugurated boards to uphold integrity, innovation, and commitment in advancing para sports in Nigeria.

Olopade reminded the new boards that all sports deserve equal attention and investment, stating, saying that all sports deserve equal support and investment, regardless of its popularity.

He further charged the federations to prioritise athletes welfare, grassroots development, and institutional growth, reaffirming the commission’s commitment to funding and recognising para athletes.

“We remain fully committed to supporting para athletes and celebrating their achievements,” he said,

He urged the new leaders to work collectively and responsibly to elevate para sports, which he described as a symbol of courage, resilience, and determination.

Amputee Football has  Jones-Ere Opukiri as President and   Joshua Bungon as Vice President.

Other board members are Ibrahim Idako, Ashiga Bukar, Abdulazeez Abiodun, Tochukwu Nnaji, Sarafadeen Oyeleke, Victor Nwenne, Si Wandoo Andura (NIS), Dr. Yakubu Yahaya, Thecla Opara, Isa Suleiman, and Maria Omonehin.

Para Athletics: Etti Olawale is President, while Mohammed Nafiu will serve as Vice President.

Other members of the board are Yakubu Atanda, Musbau Didi, Ezeipe Silver, Nnacheta Vincent, Uwak Unyime, Oladipupo Idowu, Kasumu Taiwo, Yakubu Lar (FRSC), and Salamatu Alimi.

Para Powerlifting: Kingsley Awodi is President and  Patrick Akutekwe as Vice President.

Other board members are Abduljaleel Sharhu, Saile Mohammed, Amina Ahmed, Eweje Oluwafemiayo Gbolahan, Folashade, Oluwakemi Oyebola, Grace Thomas, Joy Mayaki, Christiana Olanrewaju, James Allison, and Igbiti Aghimile.

Para Soccer: Kaka Mallam is President, while Sherifat Araoye will serve as Vice President.

Other members of the board are Sanni Gimbiya, Felix Apwale, Samaka Mohammed, Omoyemi Adeniyi, Enai Emezikeye, Hauwa Saibu, Abdullahi Adoro, Yusuf Isa, Rita Okechukwumeye, and Beatrice Emechete.

Para Swimming: Adeola Adeyemi is President, with Ahmed Alao as Vice President.

Other board members are Ahmed Muktar, Yohanna Umar, Usman Yahaya, Chikwendu Amobi, Preye Ebis, Titilayo Badmus, Joseph Oladele, Jumoke Ojo, Mohammed Ajayi, Abosede Olateju, and Dappa Wogu.

Para Volleyball: Mohammed Abba is President, while Jim Okolo will serve as Vice President.

Other members of the board are Nagiya Magana, Ashiru Abdullahi, Philomina Agusobo, Adebowale Alaba, Ugwunwa Achigh, Abejide Ademola, Mary Vayin, Asoa James, Franscisca Ikheiede, Emmanuel Igba, and Olufunke Aina.
