Benue Govt trains 10,000 youths on ICT, Plans to Export Talents

From Scholastica Hir, Makurdi

Benue State Government has commenced the training of 10,000 youths from the state.

The youths are being trained on different packages under digital Information and Communication Technology, (ICT).

Speaking to newsmen during one of the training sessions in Makurdi on Monday, June 10, 2024, the Lead Consultant, Mr Jeffrey Udende, said Government was training the youth to bring out the potentials in them to be employable in the global competitive market.

He stated that the government would ensure that the trainees have jobs at the end of the training.

“All of Benue youths have potentials that can be transferred positively. We are in a digital economy. What government is doing is not just training people but those who have done this successfully and have no job will be given jobs.

“We are training 10,000 youths physically and online. We created the online classroom because of those who applied and went for NYSC.

“The good thing about the training is that the jobs are hanging. This is the first government in Nigeria training youths for digital ICT.

“Google is our training partner (explorer and many other platforms too). We are looking at exporting talents before the end of the training period. All of them that understand this will get a job. Participants are doing very well,” he said.

Also speaking, the Training Consultant, Mr Samson Igoche, said the training is an initiative of the state government aimed at helping the trainees to start developing local content.

Igoche also said that the training was meant to promote the Benue youths for global economy and also improve livelihood of Benue youth.

“We are doing several courses. We’re working with Google and others. We’re also using Google classroom so that people will be able to join online. The training is at self-pace. Government will also link them with jobs. It has been a very wonderful experience, he added.

Some of the trainees, John Elor and Miracle Amen appreciated the state government for giving them the opportunity saying they would not take it for granted.

“This training started two weeks ago. Orientation covered one week while the training in earnest started since one week ago. Today, we are doing Cyber security Module 1. Cyber security has a lot of global demand. We are in a digital world and need to be conscious. There are lots of opportunities in cyber security. We are happy that those trained will be given opportunity to work,” Elor said.

On the other hand, Miracle Amen also noted “We have a lot on the programme. I did apply for Data Analysis and Cyber Security. Companies today need to know that their information is safe and that’s my goal.”
