Barrister Chioma Uzodimma, wife of the Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodimma began her career as a lawyer in various reputable law firms, first as a Junior Associate for Emeka Etiaba (SAN) – Etiaba Chambers & Co., Rickey Tarfa (SAN) & Co. and Chris Uche (SAN) & Co.
As the Founder of Goodhope Women Flourish Initiative, Secretary of the Renewed Hope Initiative, and Chairperson of First Ladies Against Cancer, among others, she has made visible impacts on the lives of many people.
Since the inauguration of the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma in Imo State, more than 6,000 women and youth have been directly empowered across the state through her initiative in collaboration with the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups.
Barr. Chioma Uzodimma has also established small-scale businesses for widows and indigent women, providing them with sustainable income sources.
In the past few years, the Imo First Lady has reached over 4,000 women and girls through sensitisation on reproductive health, mental health, as well as cancer prevention.
On the legal front, she sponsored the domestication of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act in Imo State, ensuring its dissemination to relevant agencies and law courts, and actively prosecuting Gender Based Violence cases.
She spearheaded the petitioning of the Governor and the Imo State House of Assembly to domesticate laws guaranteeing women’s fundamental right to inherit from their deceased fathers’ estates.
Similarly, she is championing women’s inclusion in governance by advocating for their appointment to key state positions and her effort is yielding results.
Through her collaboration with the Governors’ Wives Forum, her foundation has conducted drug education programmes, campaigned vigorously against substance abuse among women, and successfully reunited trafficked girls and young women with their families. Similarly, her outreach programme has helped enrol over 5,000 out-of-school children.
For her passion for better life for women in Imo State, The Sun Board of Editors chose her as winner of The Sun First Lady of the Year Award 2025.
