FC Barcelona saw their UEFA Champions League dream end in painful fashion on Tuesday night despite a 2-1 away win over Atlético Madrid, as the Spaniards progressed 3-2 on aggregate thanks in part to a decisive goal from Ademola Lookman.

Barcelona arrived at the Metropolitano needing a major turnaround after the first-leg deficit, and they started like a team determined to force it.

Lamine Yamal set the tone early, winning the ball high up and helping Barça reduce the deficit inside four minutes, before Ferran Torres added a second goal that briefly swung momentum their way.

The Catalans dominated large spells of the first half, with Dani Olmo heavily involved in attack, but they failed to extend their lead and left the tie finely balanced.

Atlético Madrid, however, punished a defensive lapse when Lookman finished a swift move involving Marcos Llorente, restoring control of the tie for the hosts at a crucial moment.

Barcelona kept pushing after the break and thought they had reignited hope when Ferran Torres scored again, only for VAR to rule it out for offside.

The game swung into action again when Eric García was shown a straight red card after pulling back Alexander Sørloth as the last man, leaving Barça to finish the match with ten men.

Even in stoppage time, Barcelona threw everything forward, with late chances falling to Ronald Araújo, but his header went wide and ended their final hope.

Atlético held on under pressure and secured their place in the semi-finals, while Barcelona were left to reflect on missed chances, key errors, and another European exit that will sting deeply.
