Brothers Across Nigeria (BAN), a registered non-governmental, non-political, and non-religious organisation founded over 50 years ago with chapters across Africa, Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East, has addressed media reports linking it to a Nigerian national convicted of criminal offences in Australia.
BAN’s media and public relations unit stated that the individual, a former member, acted independently and without authorisation. The organisation had no involvement, knowledge, or benefit from his actions.
“No charges were brought against BAN or any member,” said Dr Christopher Ndubuisi, Head of the Publicity Committee. “This confirms he acted independently and must be judged solely on his actions.”
BAN enforces a strict code of conduct, with immediate disciplinary action, such as suspension or expulsion, for members who breach its values.
Akpo Ohimor, chair of BAN’s Legal Committee, urged the media to practise responsible journalism. He warned that BAN reserves the right to take legal action if its name is misrepresented.
“One person’s misconduct cannot overshadow five decades of service. BAN’s values remain strong and our commitment to positive impact continues,” the statement concluded.
