The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Olanrewaju Bajulaiye, has described Lagos Traffic Radio as a dependable and trusted companion for motorists and residents navigating the metropolis, noting that the station has become an indispensable part of Lagos life.
Bajulaiye made the remark during a working visit to the station, where he commended the management and staff for their dedication and innovation in providing real-time traffic information across the state.
He urged the team to strengthen synergy and explore new frontiers to enhance the station’s efficiency and reach.
Accompanied by the Director of Social Media in the Ministry, Dr. Jide Atansuyi, and the Director of Strategy Centre, Mr. Kayode Oyekanmi, the Permanent Secretary emphasized the strategic importance of Lagos as the largest economy in sub-Saharan Africa and a mega city under global focus.
According to him, “Lagos is not compared to any state of the federation; we are compared to nations of the world. Whatever we do, all eyes are on us. We must continue to meet the needs and yearnings of the people by providing timely and accurate traffic information. I also want us to look at other areas that people have not delved into, including ways to reach Lagosians in the diaspora.”
Earlier, the General Manager of Lagos Traffic Radio, Mr. Tayo Akanle, welcomed the Permanent Secretary and congratulated him on his appointment and redeployment to his home ministry, describing it as well-deserved. He outlined the station’s numerous innovations and achievements in line with the ‘T’ pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
Akanle highlighted the station’s expansion beyond road traffic updates to include information on waterways, railway services, flight schedules, live camera updates, and real-time motorbike incident reports. He also revealed the establishment of a booster station in Ikorodu and another planned for the Ibeju-Lekki axis to further strengthen the station’s signal coverage.
The General Manager added that the station plans to increase its live camera feeds from 300 to over 3,000 in collaboration with the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology to enhance visibility and real-time reporting.
“Lagos Traffic Radio was established to provide travel advisory and traffic information to motorists not just in Lagos but across neighboring states. Thirteen years down the line, we have remained true to that vision and have made significant progress,” Akanle said.
He further disclosed that the station’s social media presence has grown remarkably, with its Facebook followers increasing from 4,000 in 2019 to over 100,000, and its X (formerly Twitter) followers rising from 15,000 to 55,000.
During the visit, Bajulaiye and his entourage were conducted around the station’s facilities, including the live studios, transmitter room, and the live motorbike reporters’ section.
The Permanent Secretary commended the station’s innovative strides and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting Lagos Traffic Radio in fulfilling its mandate as the state’s foremost travel and traffic advisory station.
