The Benin–Asaba Expressway Concession Company (BAECC) has reiterated its unwavering commitment to delivering a world-class expressway that will transform travel, trade, and connectivity across Southern Nigeria.

At a media briefing on Wednesday, the company reported significant progress on the 125-kilometre Benin–Asaba Expressway project, assuring commuters and host communities of sustained efforts to ease travel while construction continues.

Mr. Edafe Shingle, Chief Executive Officer of BAECC, emphasized that the company remains focused on completing the project within schedule and to the highest international standards. “Our mission remains clear, to deliver a road that meets global benchmarks of safety, quality, and durability. We deeply appreciate the patience of road users and the cooperation of host communities as we make steady progress,” Shingle stated.

“The support from state authorities, partner agencies, and local stakeholders has been instrumental in driving this shared vision forward.”

As part of its community-first strategy, BAECC has intensified engagement with residents and stakeholders along the project corridor. Through its Community Liaison Officer, Engineer Jude Odogwu, the company has strengthened ties with traditional leaders, youth groups, and local security bodies to foster trust, promote safety, and maintain open communication channels.

Dr. Jerry Adeyeri, Head of Public Communications at BAECC, reiterated that inclusivity and transparency remain central to the company’s operations. “Our approach goes beyond building infrastructure; we’re building relationships. Regular town hall meetings and consultations ensure that communities remain informed and involved. Every milestone reflects collective effort from our engineers to our local partners,” Adeyeri said.

The Benin–Asaba Expressway, which cuts across Edo and Delta States, is being executed under a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) with the Federal Government through the Ministry of Works’ PPP Unit. The model is designed to guarantee the long-term sustainability and maintenance of Nigeria’s key transport infrastructure.

Once completed, the expressway is expected to dramatically reduce travel time, enhance road safety, and boost trade and logistics across the South-South and South-East regions, reinforcing BAECC’s goal of setting a new benchmark for modern road development in Nigeria.
