Ex-Super Falcons’ striker, Patience Avre-Odeli, has made a passionate appeal to stakeholders to give total support to the Delta State Sports Commission headed by Onos Oborevwori.

Avre -Odeli, who represented Nigeria at the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the Olympic Games, aside winning the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations three times, congratulated Oborevwori who was recently honoured at a special ceremony in Paris, France.

“Yeah, it’s important I congratulate and appreciate Big Bros Onos. He surely deserves the Best Sports Commissioner Award he got in France. He has been hardworking and innovative as Delta State Sports Commission boss.

“He has not only sustained leadership of Delta State in Nigerian Sports but, also, created the environment for the state’s dominance.

“I have confirmed regular salaries and allowances payment to sportsmen and women, including officials. Such regular motivation and the provision of adequate facilities have boosted various teams,” said Avre who spoke from Chicago, United States, yesterday.

The ex-Ufuoma Babes FC of Warri and Princess Jegede Queens FC of Lagos striker commended the Delta State Sports Commission for its massive support given to both Warri Wolves FC and Delta Queens FC of Asaba.

“I thoroughly enjoy the strides of Warri Wolves and Delta Queens under the Commission. The results have been impressive, hence, our dear Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, gave four buses to the two elite clubs. Warri Wolves are doing well in the Nigeria Premier League and I expect Delta Queens to do well in the next Women’s Football league season.

“Big thanks to Governor Oborevwori and the Delta State Sports Commission. I appeal to sports loving Deltans at home and in the Diaspora for more moral and financial support to the athletes and officials. I’m strongly convinced that better days for Delta sports would come with the present professionalism,” Avre concluded while stressing the need for training and retraining of coaches.
