A United States-based medical doctor, Dr. Teju Ogunrinde, has agreed to reopen a community clinic in Ileogbo, Ayedire Local Government Area, following the resolution of a local dispute by the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdurosheed Akanbi.
The reconciliation took place over the weekend during a joint birthday celebration marking the 90th birthday of a former presidential aspirant, Professor Pade Aderibigbe, and the 85th birthday of his wife, Titilayo.
The clinic, known as Omoyiola Free Medical Centre, Ileogbo, had been shut down due to a disagreement between Dr. Ogunrinde and the Olu of Ileogbo, Oba Habeeb Adetoyese.
Addressing the gathering, Oba Akanbi urged the medical doctor to reopen the facility in honor of her parents, whom she was celebrating, noting that the community was bearing the brunt of the closure.
“Go and open Omoyiola. We are going to settle the dispute today. Forget about what has happened. Thank God Olu of Ileogbo is also here. Those who are getting treatment in the hospital are suffering. This land needs you more,” the monarch stated.
He also congratulated Professor Aderibigbe, praising him as a pioneer presidential aspirant from the region.
Speaking to journalists after the event, Dr. Ogunrinde commended the Oluwo as a respected and approachable monarch and confirmed her decision to resume healthcare services.
However, she emphasized the need for active collaboration with the Osun State government to ensure sustainable healthcare delivery.
Clarifying her stance on politics, Dr. Ogunrinde said visionaries must work alongside political leaders to foster community development.
“We cannot all be involved in politics, but politicians should encourage people who are giving back to the community and partner with them to reach out.
“It doesn’t take much to run a clinic because I’ve run it for many years. I have the resources to supply goods and services, but I cannot depend solely on individuals around the community or my colleagues in the diaspora to keep supplying all its needs,” she added.
She further appealed to the government to deploy youth service doctors to the facility, pointing out that residential spaces have already been built on-site to accommodate medical staff.
Dr. Ogunrinde explained that her decision to honor her parents while they are alive stems from a preference for celebrating loved ones over lavish funeral spending.
She also called on politicians to emulate Professor Aderibigbe by avoiding politics of bitterness.
In her remarks, Mrs. Titilayo expressed gratitude for reaching this milestone alongside her husband, appreciating the steadfast support he has provided her for over six decades.
