Avila Naturalle, a leading manufacturer of natural skincare products in Nigeria, has taken a fresh approach to promoting youth development and gender inclusion through the Avila Women’s Cup, a grassroots football tournament.
The Avila Women’s Cup, held in the Alimosho area of Lagos was a vibrant celebration of female inclusion, talent showcase, empowerment, and community development. The tournament was organised to encourage young women to pursue their dreams and also promote the advancement of women’s football in Nigeria, breeding from the grassroots communities.
Eight female teams from different communities across Lagos participated in the tournament, with Ijemido Football Club, which represented Avila Foods & Supplement and Tribe Football Club, which represented Avila Water & Drinks, eventually reaching the final. In what turned out to be a very intense and keenly contested soccer bout, Ijemido FC won the tournament, beating Tribe FC by three goals to two to lift the coveted trophy.
Expressing excitement at the performance of the teams, the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Avila Naturalle Limited, Mrs. Temitope Mayegun noted that the tournament lived up to its expectations as the players showed admirable talent, passion and commitment to winning, which is what the whole idea of the tournament is about.
“The Avila Women’s Cup tournament is a demonstration of youth talents, passion, commitment, team spirit and winning mentality, a reflection of which we have seen displayed by the players on the field today,” she said.
Mrs Mayegun also noted that the impact of the Avila Women’s Cup tournament extends beyond the confines of the playground. By showcasing the talents of these young female players, we are promoting gender inclusion and fostering a sense of community pride and unity, bringing people from all walks of life to celebrate the achievements of women in sports.
“In the long term, the Avila Women’s Cup football tournament has the potential to drive positive social change by challenging stereotypes and empowering young women and girls to reach their full potential,” she added.
As a leading natural skincare brand in Nigeria, Avila Naturalle has always championed corporate social responsibility initiatives that focus on promoting positive social change, inspiring young girls to be confident in their own skin. The recent of such initiatives is the ‘Be-You-tiful’ campaign, which promotes the advocacy against skin bleaching amongst young female students across secondary schools in Nigeria. With this recent investment in women’s sports, Avila is not only investing in the future of the players but also contributing its quota to the development of a better society as a whole.
