The Dean of the School of Law of the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, Professor  Mohammed Bello Magaji has advised the matriculating law students of the school to work hard to becoming not only lawyers, but future leaders of the country and world at large.

In a statement made available to Daily Sun following the matriculation ceremony penultimate Monday, Prof. Magaji disclosed that out of the total of 300 students that matriculated, the school of Law had over 65 students, saying the enrollment was remarkable and inspiring.

He advised the matriculating students to study hard  with discipline, passion, and a deep sense of purpose, in order to emerge, not only as lawyers, but as world leaders.

“The American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, has matriculated no fewer than 300 students for the 2025 academic session, with a call to them to become agents of positive change.

“In  the school of Law of the American University of Nigeria (AUN) we had  over 65 matriculated students at the just concluded matriculation ceremony which we in the American setting call it the Pledge ceremony.

“The enrollment of over 65 bright, ambitious students into our School of Law is both remarkable and inspiring. It is a clear testament to the growing confidence that young Nigerians and their families are placing in the American University of Nigeria as a center of excellence in legal education.

“Compared to previous years, this figure represents significant progress, and it reflects the reputation our School is building as a place where law is taught not only as a body of rules, but also as a transformative tool for justice, leadership, and nation-building.

“My advice to the matriculating students is simple yet profound: approach your studies with discipline, passion, and a deep sense of purpose. Law is not just a profession; it is a calling to serve society with integrity, fairness, and courage. The years ahead will challenge you intellectually, morally, and emotionally, but with commitment, you will emerge not only as lawyers but as leaders who can shape the future of Nigeria, Africa, and the world.

“In fact, the President of the American University of Nigeria has said it all in his charge to you. He urged you to uphold high moral standards, to embrace hard work and discipline, and to be community-oriented through service to society.

“At the School of Law, we are particularly proud that our Law Clinic offers you a practical platform to live out this vision—serving real people, solving real problems, and contributing positively to your community even while you are still students. Remember always that excellence is not an act, but a habit—practice it daily.

“As Dean, I feel a deep sense of pride and fulfillment. Today is a defining moment for these students, their families, and indeed for the School of Law. To witness the joy in their eyes as they take their pledge, and to know that we are preparing them to stand tall in courts, boardrooms, parliaments, and international platforms in the years to come, is profoundly moving.

“For me, matriculation day is both a celebration of promise and a reaffirmation of our responsibility—to nurture these young minds into principled lawyers, innovative thinkers, and ethical leaders. It is truly one of the most gratifying days in the academic calendar”. The statement said.

AUN was founded in 2003 by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and admitted its first set of students in 2005, making this year’s matriculation the 20th in the life of the institution.

The university remains the first in Nigeria to offer American-style higher education, combining global best practices with a commitment to local development.

The occasion, according to the statement  featured the traditional induction of students with class sashes, signing of the academic pledge, and the presentation of the Brian Deaver Lawn Tennis Court, donated by the Jaiz Bank Outdoor Entrepreneurship Hub.
