The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Higher Education has commended Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, for its efficient use of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and commitment to producing high-quality graduates.

During their working visit to assess the utilisation of funds allocated to the university, the Committee Chairman, Hon. Charles Chukwuemeke Emetulu, praised the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Andy Ogochukwu Egwunyenga, and management for their responsible utilisation of resources. He noted that the university has built faculty complexes, classrooms, and laboratories with funds from IGR and federal agencies.

The committee’s visit aimed to verify the proper use of state government funds and internally generated funds. Hon. Emetulu commended DELSU’s ability to maintain an uninterrupted academic calendar, produce high-quality graduates, and hold annual convocations. He highlighted that prominent figures like Governor Oborevwori, Deputy Speaker Akpovwovwo, and himself are DELSU alumni, demonstrating the university’s contribution to society.

Hon. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, Commissioner for Higher Education, expressed appreciation for the committee’s focus on accountability and assessment of the university’s needs. He urged the lawmakers to support the government in completing the ongoing Senate Building, which would enhance university administration.

Prof. Egwunyenga, DELSU’s Vice Chancellor, thanked the committee for their support and highlighted the university’s ranking as the 22nd in Nigeria, 3rd best state university, and best state university in the South-South and South-East regions. He attributed this success to the support from the State Executive Council and the House of Assembly.

He emphasised the importance of continued collaboration between the university and the committee for the benefit of the institution, government, and society.
