A Northern group under the umbrella of Arewa Think Tank has tackled the United States of America (USA) and other foreign missions over the security advice to their citizens in Nigeria as well as those visiting the country.
The Convener, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, in a released statement berated the US and other foreign missions in the country for the “needless security advisories”.
The reaction followed the recent advice urging their citizens not to stay in hotels or visit certain states in Nigeria because of security concern.
The group said such alarming advice has far-reaching negative implications on the general polity as well as the country’s socio-economic development.
“We are aware that the Federal Government was not resting on its oars to ensure that every inch of land and every citizen, both local and foreign, resident and visitor in the country is secured,” Yakubu stated.
On November 3, the US Mission alerted its citizens in the country of “an elevated threat to major hotels in Nigeria’s larger cities” and urged its nationals to “consider this information when arranging lodging or visiting major hotels in Nigeria.”
The Coordinator of Arewa Think Tank said such alerts were “needless” as President Bola Tinubu was eager to get the country back on track.
This is even as the group expressed its support for billing being proposed by the National Assembly banning the use of US dollars to pay for transactions in Nigeria. “We want to encourage the CBN governor for the Naira gains against the dollar and the tempo should be maintained or strengthening further gains,” the group added.
In a related development, the Arewa Think Tank has felicitated with Senator Orji Uzor Kalu over his victory at the court.
The Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, had penultimate Monday reaffirmed the victory of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of the All Progressives Congress APC, representing Abia-North Senatorial zone in the February 25 polls.
