The Arewa Think Tank (ATT) has announced its full endorsement of the detailed statement by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, on Nigeria’s security situation.
The Convener of the ATT, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, commended the SGF, stating, “Senator Akume has provided a comprehensive and factual clarification of Nigeria’s security landscape. We stand firmly with the Federal Government in rejecting the baseless characterisation of this crisis as a ‘genocide against Christians,’ a claim supported by no credible international evidence.”
Yakubu in a statement, yesterday, emphasized the factual inaccuracy of the religious genocide narrative, noting, “The reality on the ground is that terrorist groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP consistently target both Christians and Muslims. Similarly, criminal bandits are driven by economic gain, not religious ideology. To claim otherwise is dangerously inflammatory and undermines our national unity.”

On the capacity of Nigeria’s security forces, the Convener affirmed, “The ATT has full confidence in the capability and professionalism of the Nigerian Armed Forces. We do not require foreign troops on our soil. What we need is a recalibrated partnership with allies like the United States, focused on enhanced intelligence sharing and advanced technology.”
Yakubu also expressed concern, saying, “We have observed that recent international statements are being exploited by militant groups for propaganda. This underscores the urgent need for more discreet and collaborative engagement, not public pronouncements that endanger civilians.”
He called for national solidarity, urging all citizens to reject divisive rhetoric and stand united. “As a secular nation, our strength is in our diversity. We join the SGF in calling for a strengthened, respectful partnership with the United States, founded on our shared democratic values and a mutual commitment to peace,”
he said.
