President Bola Tinubu on Thursday convened a high-level meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders, National Assembly caucus members, and governors, signalling the party’s push for an inclusive national convention and congresses amid rapid growth.
The strategic session at the State House, Abuja, brought together national and sub-national party chieftains to synchronise preparations, review timetables, and gauge the political landscape. Attendees included Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Nigerian Governors’ Forum Chairman, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman, Governor Hope Uzodinma (Imo), Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, House Majority Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, Chief Whip Usman Bello Kumo, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Bashiru.
APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, speaking afterwards, described the meeting as a key alignment exercise. “It was just a brief meeting to review the preparations for the convention and the congresses and the synergy between all arms of government so that we can be on one page: the sub-national, the national, the National Assembly and the party,” he said.
Yilwatda emphasised inclusivity amid an influx of new members and governors. “We’re reviewing the timetable, studying the political environment to ensure nobody is left behind,” he noted, adding: “Both at the national and sub-national, I want to carry everybody along with the party. We have new members who have come in, new governors, new members; the party is expanding every day, and we are growing beyond bounds. We want to ensure that in the course of this growth, nobody is left behind.”

He praised Tinubu’s pivotal role, calling him a “shrewd politician, very experienced” whose “advice was remarkable.” The party’s expansion, Yilwatda said, stems directly from the president’s “experience and his depth of knowledge in political circles.”
This comes after the APC’s updated timetable, released in late January: ward congresses on February 18, local government on February 20, state on March 7, zonal on March 21, and national convention on March 27–28.
He said party leaders plan broader consultations to foster unity and integrate newcomers.
