APC NWC: Nwoye, Okafor replace Eneukwu, Duru, as Yilwatda, Basiru, others retain position

The erstwhile All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Chairman (South), Emma Eneukwu and his Deputy National Organising Secretary counterpart, Nze Chidi Duru, were among the notable members of the National Working Committee (NWC) that lost their positions after the intriguing politics during the party’s concluded 8th National Convention in Abuja.

Announcing the new national officers from the unity list, the leaders of the party also reaffirmed Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda as the new National Chairman and Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru as the National Secretary.

While the immediate past chairman Enugu state caretaker committee, Ben Nwoye was announced as Eneukwu’s replacement in the consensus-driven arrangements, Emeka Okafor replaced workaholic Duru after an extensive consultations within the party.

The convention, which was planned to last till Saturday was abridged after the new NWC members emerged largely through a unity arrangement endorsed by party stakeholders and ratified by delegates.

Although the new arrangement was a product of high level intrigue, sources within the party disclosed that the decision was shaped by internal zoning arrangements and the influence of party leaders, with governors playing a central role in determining the aspirant’s positions allocated to their states.

In his acceptance speech, party’s chairman, Yilwatda described his re-election as a call to greater service, pledging commitment to party unity and national progress.

“We are ready to serve, ready to lead, and ready to build the party, together with the nation,” he said, assuring members that the new leadership would not “fail or falter” in its responsibilities.

The high-profile event was attended by President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, governors, members of the National Assembly, and other key figures within the ruling party.
