The Executive Secretary of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation, Biodun Ajiboye, has defended the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu, insisting that ongoing reforms are critical to stabilising Nigeria despite the hardship they have triggered.
Speaking on Arise News during the 8th All Progressives Congress National (APC) Convention, Biodun Ajiboye said Nigeria had little choice but to embark on what he described as “bold and necessary” reforms, given the state of the economy before the 2023 general elections.
According to him, Nigeria was on the brink and required urgent structural adjustments to avoid collapse, noting that the current reform phase, though painful, is laying the foundation for long-term recovery.

“From where Nigeria was before the 2023 elections, there was no other way but to embark on President Tinubu’s bold reforms – we would have collapsed otherwise.
“The period of reform is a period of pain; what the APC is doing is trying to mitigate the excruciating pain of social deprivation,” he said.
Ajiboye acknowledged that many Nigerians are grappling with rising living costs and social pressures, but maintained that such outcomes are typical of reform-driven transitions.
He added that the administration is implementing measures aimed at easing the burden on vulnerable populations while sustaining fiscal and economic restructuring.
