Former Aviation Minister, Amb. Femi Fani-Kayode has described opposition parties in the country as “mushroom parties”.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain said this in a Friday statement while reacting to  the wave of defections to the party in recent times.

Fani-Kayode commended President Bola Tinubu for consolidating the party’s successes, particularly in the North Central and South South geopolitical zones.

He said the APC’s spread showed it is not a regional or a religious party but an all-embracing and all-inclusive one that accommodates members of all ethnic persuasions and religions.

He said, “The defection of Governor Caleb Mutfwang to our party means that both the North Central and South South zones of Nigeria are now FULLY in the control of our great party APC.

“This is a historic development because the same political party has NEVER controlled all the states of both of these zones at the same time.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has united the so-called minorities of the North and the so-called minorities of the South and put them all in one party.

“No President or leader has EVER managed to achieve that and even his detractors cannot but marvel at this great achievement albeit grudgingly.

“Outside of that in the South East the APC controls 3 out of the 5 states, in the South West APC controls 4 out of the 6 states, in the North East APC controls 4 out of the 6 states and in the North West APC controls 5 out of the 6 states.

“This means that out of the 36 states in the Nigerian Federation the APC controls 29 whilst the other mushroom parties all put together only control 7.”

The new ambassador said such gains by the APC testified to the leadership qualities, fortitude, courage, insight, foresight and vision of President Tinubu and the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

“What they have managed to achieve in terms of building up the strength and fortunes of the APC is nothing short of miraculous,” Fani-Kayode added.
