Akwa Ibom State Police Command has said that one of her officers identified as CSP Ebong Thompson has reportedly shun an offer of N800, 000 given him to free an robbery suspect now in police custody in Uyo .
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer in Akwa Akwa Ibom DSP Timfon John and made available to Journalists in Uyo stated that the money was meant to cover up the crime allegedly committed by the armed robbery suspect and sealed the case to pervert justice.
Timfon explained that the Police Officer who is in charge of Special Weapons and Tacts was lured by relative of the suspect to take the cash and release as the suspect was an ex convict .
The statement reads in parts:
“A police officer in charge of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, CSP Ebong Thompson, rejected N800,000 bribe offered to him on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
” The money was intended to secure the release of an armed robbery suspect and also cover up the crime.”
John said the suspect known as David Samuel Isaac 53, was apprehended after a Samsung phone snatched at gun point was traced and recovered from him
“The suspect, 53-year-old David Samuel Isaac, was arrested after a Samsung phone that was gotten at gun point was traced to him.

“David has a history of similar offenses as he was arrested and charged to court for similar crimes sometime last year but returned to criminal activities after his release.
“The other suspect, Emmanuel Mendie Peter was arrested after he brought the bribe to the SWAT office to secure the release of the main suspect. He was taken into custody after the offer was rejected.”
John maintained that all officers concerned with the investigation received a commendation letter from the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare for helping to fight corruption .
“The CP, while addressing officers at the end of the month briefing, charged them to emulate the distinguished officers.”
She therefore warned members of the public to stop interfering with police investigations.
” Members of the public are therefore warned to desist from compromising police investigation”.
