Chairman, Obijackson Group, Chief Ernest Obiejesi, recently led his staff and residents of Okija community in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State on a six-kilometre ‘Walkathon’, aimed at promoting fitness, wellness, and community bonding.

The road walk, which kicked off at the Obijackson residence, through major roads and streets of Okija, saw participation from Obijackson employees from Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Anambra, and other states, as well as residents and the traditional ruler of Okija, Igwe Emeka Okezie, and his cabinet chiefs—all dressed in sportswear and full of enthusiasm as they joined in the exercise.

Speaking in an interview with journalists shortly after the exercise, at the Acropolis Golf Course in Okija, Obiejesi said the ‘Walkathon’ is part of the activities of the Obijackson Group’s three-day retreat, an annual event where staff review performance, share ideas, and plan for the coming year.

Obiejesi said the event will be held annually with a focus on fitness and wellness, highlighting the importance of good health through exercise and healthy living.

He said, “The ‘Walkathon’ is part of our efforts at promoting fitness and healthy living. This is what we do regularly, and I am so happy that our people are embracing it because health is the greatest wealth.”

He urged residents to embrace simple habits such as walking, stretching, and eating healthy meals as practical steps toward overall well-being, reiterating his commitment to promoting healthy living through continuous advocacy on fitness, nutrition, hygiene and mental health.

Also speaking, his wife, Nnenna Obiejesi, who also participated in the exercise, encouraged staff and residents to always put God first in all their personal and professional dealings.

The traditional ruler of Okija, Igwe Emeka Okezie, commended the Obijackson Group for the initiative, describing it as a refreshing and timely reminder of the benefits of regular exercise.

Meanwhile, as part of the celebration, Obiejesi commissioned two modern hostels, one for male students and one for female students, a new classroom block, and, also, upgraded facilities for learning at the Gonzaga Jesuit College, Okija.

The event, held at the school premises in Okija,  brought together students, staff, parents, Jesuit priests, community leaders, and benefactors to celebrate the vision that has shaped the school since its inception.

Obiejesi said, “Education is one of the greatest gifts we can give the next generation. It prepares our children to face life’s challenges, think critically, and grow into responsible citizens.”

He expressed gratitude for the school community and the Jesuit leadership, whose collective support continues to expand opportunities for students.
