Retired Anglican archbishop of the Niger Province and Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Anambra State, Most Rev Prof Godwin Okpala has been reported missing since Friday morning.
Archbishop Okpala was said to have left for Umuchu with his driver but failed to arrive at his destination.
Report said despite efforts to establish contact, no communication had been received, and the whereabouts of Okpala, his driver, and their vehicle had remained unknown.
“It is with a heavy heart that we wish to inform us that our dear Father, Most Rev Prof Godwin Okpala (rtd Archbishop of the Niger Province and Bishop of Nnewi has been missing since yesterday morning.
“He travelled with his driver to Umuchu but never got to his destination and he is yet to return, neither have we heard from them. He, his driver and his car are nowhere to be found.
“We plead for your prayers for their safe return. We’ve contacted relevant authorities and we trust we shall hear from them soon,” the report said.
Efforts to get the report confirmed or dismissed by the bishop, Diocese of Nnewi Anglican Communion, Rt Rev Ndubisi Obi was abortive as he did not take his calls.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga (SP) said he had no report on the incident.
