A public affairs analyst in Nnewi, Anambra State, Justin Brown Anyadike, has warned against the danger of denying Igbo the position of Senate presidency and other juicy positions in federal appointments.

Anyadike spoke yesterday, in a press conference, against the backdrop of other ethnic nationalities gunning for the Senate presidency, while the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) could not win the presidential election to produce a vice president of Igbo extraction.

He argued that since Nigeria stands on a tripod, it would be rational to allow Ndigbo have the Senate presidency’s slot and other sensitive ministerial positions for equity and fairness in the application of federal character.

“It is obvious that Nigeria stands on a tripod. Since the North has produced the president and Yoruba, the vice president, it is arguably reasonable for an Igbo man to be the Senate president, head of the Department of State Services (DSS) and even the chief of army staff. There are qualified people in the system now that can occupy these positions. Igbo’s contributions to national development cannot be dismissed with a wave of hand, if the unity of Nigeria has to be sustained. It would amount to injustice not to allow the Igbo to occupy sensitive positions this time around,” he said.
