Alerte Universal, Odushu Foundation unite to tackle boy child crisis

Alerte Universal has entered a strategic partnership with the Odushu Foundation to advance the Boy Child Initiative, a focused intervention aimed at addressing the often-overlooked challenges confronting boys in today’s society.

Dr James Useghan, founder, Alerte Universal disclosed that the collaboration reflects a growing recognition that the pressures placed on young boys, particularly around rigid definitions of masculinity, have far-reaching consequences for individuals, families, and communities.

James who is a United Nations peace ambassador notes that ‘ For years, societal expectations have conditioned boys to internalize emotions, discouraging expressions of fear, sadness, or vulnerability.

” This emotional suppression has contributed to a range of outcomes, including disengagement from education, increased exposure to delinquency, and long-term cycles of marginalisation.

Against this backdrop, James opines that the Boy Child Initiative emerges as a structured and deliberate response designed to reverse these trends.

” At the core of the Odushu Foundation’s approach is a four-pillar framework: Education, Innovation, Orientation, and Scholarship. This model seeks to address both the systemic and personal barriers that hinder boys from reaching their full potential. Through its partnership with Alerte Universal, the initiative is poised to expand its reach and deepen its impact.

” Under the Education pillar, the initiative will focus on developing learning programs tailored to diverse cognitive styles, ensuring that boys remain engaged and supported within the school system.

” Recognizing that traditional teaching methods may not cater to every learner, the program aims to create more inclusive academic environments.

The Innovation component will introduce boys to opportunities in technology, digital entrepreneurship, and vocational skills.

James further added that by equipping participants with practical, future-oriented competencies, the initiative intends to open up sustainable career pathways and reduce the risk of economic exclusion.

” Equally critical is the Orientation pillar, which centers on mentorship and emotional development. Through guided sessions, boys will be encouraged to embrace emotional intelligence, practice empathy, and develop healthy approaches to conflict resolution.

” The goal is to redefine strength, not as emotional suppression, but as responsibility, self-awareness, and resilience.

To ensure long-term impact, the Scholarship pillar will provide financial support to boys at risk of dropping out due to economic hardship.

” By addressing the link between poverty and early entry into survival labor, the initiative aims to keep more boys within the educational system and on a path toward stability.

Both organizations emphasize that supporting the boy child does not undermine efforts toward gender equality.

Instead, they argue that true equity requires acknowledging and responding to the unique challenges faced by every child. By investing in boys’ emotional well-being, education, and opportunities, the initiative seeks to nurture a generation of men who can contribute positively to society.

More than a social program, the partnership represents a broader societal investment, one that recognizes that no child’s potential should remain unseen or unsupported.” He said.
