The Nasarawa State Government has released the sum of N60 million for capacity building of teachers on the payroll of state owned primary and junior secondary schools.
Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, disclosed this, in Lafia, the state capital, on the occasion of the inauguration of the newly-constituted members of some boards and commissions, and the swearing in of a new Khadi, (Judge) for the state Sharia Court of Appeal.
The governor said the capacity building of these categories of teachers was his administration’s strive to reinvigorate the human capital resources in the education sub-sector of the state.
He said: “Arrangements have also been concluded to procure instructional materials for the benefit of our pupils across the state. In the same vein, we have relocated the State Universal Basic Education Board to a befitting office complex.”
The governor was therefore optimistic that with the inauguration of members of the State Universal Basic Education Board, the board will work assiduously to realize government objective of quality education for children in the state.
He added that it was his determination to improve the education sector that he releases over N4.3 billion between 2012 and 2016 as the state counterpart fund for the Universal Basic Education.
According to him “We have closely ensured that local government councils remain alive to their responsibilities, especially in primary education and other related objectives to enhance teacher training, emoluments and pensions, among others.
It is this synergy that resulted in Nasarawa state being rated the best in terms of infrastructural development in primary and junior secondary schools about three years ago,” he stated.
