As the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) began in Lagos state at the weekend, businessman and philanthropist, Mr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose took proactive steps to support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in ensuring a smooth process.
Ajose donated essential logistics materials to the 57 local government area (LGA) chairmen of the APC in Lagos state to facilitate the exercise. The colourful presentation took place at the Cathedral Church Primary School on Broad Street, Lagos Island, shortly after a brief meeting with the chairmen.
Items presented included 57 HP desktop printers, 57 Lenovo laptops, 57 generators, 57 MTN Wi-Fi devices with six-month subscriptions, 57 electric standing fans, 57 surge protector extension leads, 57 HP mice, and banners for public awareness campaigns. In addition, Ajose provided ₦200,000 (two hundred thousand naira) to each LGA chairman to mobilize personnel for the exercise over the next six months.
Speaking at the event, Ajose explained the rationale behind his support.
“I did this because of the great jobs President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government is recording both at the federal and state levels, and I believe he will do even more when reelected in 2027. The secret of continuity is to win elections, and to win elections, the APC must record massive votes. This can only be achieved when members of the public have access to vote, and the means of voting is the PVC,” he said.
He added, “That is why we want people to get their PVCs, and why we are supporting the party with logistics and manpower. People who have PVCs through the support of APC will be willing and happy to vote for the party. We are not just calling on members of the public to enrol; we are providing the means to ease the process at all cost. We want the exercise to reach the grassroots, touch the common man, and make a positive change in our society.”
The 49-year-old philanthropist, an indigene of Badagry and CEO of the Samuel Ajose Foundation, told journalists that the awareness campaign and logistical support were part of planning for President Tinubu’s victory in 2027.
“His victory can only come with massive votes so that he can continue the great work he started, from the Lagos-Calabar Expressway to the approved seaport in Badagry and other major national infrastructure projects,” Ajose said.
He urged residents across the 57 LGAs to go en masse to enroll for their PVCs, emphasising that the cards would be useful beyond voting.
Commenting on the donations, the Chairman of the APC in Lagos State, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, represented by his deputy, Moshood Mayegun, lauded Ajose for his love, courage, and dedication to the party. “Truly, you are a member of our great party, and your actions today have shown the undiluted love you have for the party and the public. You have written your name in gold in the hearts of party members,” Mayegun said.
Mayegun Dalley Adeokun, chairman of the 57 LGA chairmen conference, and his deputy, Rasheed Shobaloju, thanked Ajose on behalf of all the chairmen. “The materials will be used judiciously, and we will deliver on the mandate given to us. This singular act will also strengthen the administrative capacity and competence of the 57 LGA party secretariats,” they said.
Records indicate that Ajose has been a consistent supporter of APC’s growth. He contributed to the victory of 15 APC chairmanship candidates from Badagry, giving each ₦10 million, empowered 250 female traders in Badagry with ₦200,000 each, and donated ₦18 million to support the capital base of the 57 LGA cooperative society.
