Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi, yesterday, ordered the immediate reopening of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education (EACOED), Oyo, shut down seven weeks ago.
Besides, the governor appealed to staff and students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, to allow the consultant engaged to audit the institution by the two owner states – Oyo and Osun- to do their job, warning that no money would be released to the institution until the documents had been properly audited.
The governor gave the reopening directives after a meeting with the management staff and students of the institution in Ibadan.
The college was shut down on June 2 to prevent breakdown of law and order due to a violent protest by students over their welfare. The decision to reopen the college was said to have followed a letter of apology tendered to the state government by the management of the institution on behalf of the students. Ajimobi enjoined the students to shun any act of violence and embrace dialogue to resolve issues.
Provost of the college, Dr. Razak Adefabi, who commended the governor for reopening the institution, said the authorities of the college had put in place measures to forestall future occurrence, adding that the management has also initiated ways to boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the college.
