In a move to transform Africa’s agricultural industry, Eight Orbit Urban Farms (EOUF) has issued a rallying call to investors worldwide to collaborate on building the continent’s largest artificial intelligent (AI)-engineered indoor farm.
This bold initiative aims to harness the power of technology to propel Africa towards self-sufficiency in food production while fostering economic growth and sustainability.
“We are behind the western countries like the United States and the Netherlands in the use of innovative technologies like AI and nutrient film techniques (NFT) for sustainable and year-round crop production, supply to meet growing demands for food, and local and global distribution of farm produce,” remarked Dr. Christina Igono, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Eight Orbit Urban Farms.
Eight Orbit Urban Farms, equipped with cutting-edge data-driven systems, will optimize crop cultivation, minimize resource utilization, and maximize yields, setting a new benchmark for agricultural efficiency in the continent.
At the heart of this endeavor lies a vision to empower local communities, through job creation, and promote economic growth in Africa through partnerships and investment from private and public sectors.
“We believe that the integration of AI and sustainable farming practices in a controlled environment holds the key to unlocking Africa’s agricultural productivity and self-
sufficiency” remarked by Mr. Valentine Mbamalu, the company’s Executive Director.
The rapidly growing agricultural technology (AgTech) industry is currently valued at 24.3 billion U.S dollars and it is projected to be around 50 billion U.S dollars in 2030. The emerging startup company is slated to develop their innovative AI-engineered indoor farms on a 20-acre of land in Epe Lagos State and on a 13-acre of land in Kuje Abuja Nigeria respectively.
