The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has lifted an indefinite suspension slammed on controversial actress, Halima Abubakar, shortly after she publicly disclosed she was struggling financially.

Outgoing AGN President, Emeka Rollas confirmed the lifting of the suspension at the inauguration ceremony of the guild’s new National Executive Council (NEC) held at the AGN National Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday.

The AGN had suspended Abubakar in October 2024 for allegedly defaming members and other prominent Nigerians.

The guild said a two-year probe established her culpability, and restricted her from participating in any AGN activities and film projects during this period.

However, Rollas said the suspension was lifted so as not to cause her financial harm, noting that it would be wicked to leave the actress in limbo at the end of his tenure.

Rollas, whose second term elapsed in December 2025, has been replaced by Abubakar Yakubu.

He said, “There were persons that we have suspended according to the AGN law, and because I’m leaving office, I don’t want to leave them suspended.

“Halima Abubakar took AGN to court claiming a frivolous amount of money, but we had our investigations, and we suspended her from all acting and all AGN activities.

“However, since acting remains her main source of livelihood, it would be wicked for us to leave her like that.

“Therefore today, by the powers imposed on me by the Board of Trustees and the entire Actors Guild of Nigeria, I hereby lift Halima Abubakar’s suspension.”

Rollas added that some members from the Enugu State chapter of the guild who were also suspended also had their suspensions lifted.

They include Christopher Igboji, Chidi Concord, Dan Ewerem and Jeff Okwute.

Meanwhile, Halima Abubakar recently disclosed she was homeless and in need of N25 million for brain tumour surgery.

She made the disclosure during an Instagram Live session.

The actress revealed that she depleted her resources to cover her mother’s N9 million hernia surgery in October 2025.

She said is currently facing accommodation challenges and attempted to use funds raised for her medical treatment to pay her rent, but her landlady reportedly declined to accept the payment, leaving her without a place to stay.
