Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opened up about the decades-old relationship between his family and billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote.
Davido disclosed the depth of their family connection while speaking about his relationship with the business mogul during a recent interview in Lagos.
The singer revealed that Dangote was personally involved on the day he was born, saying the billionaire drove his mother home from the hospital after she gave birth to him.
“Aliko Dangote drove my mom home from the hospital when she gave birth to me,” Davido said.
According to the singer, Dangote’s relationship with the Adeleke family has endured for decades, with the billionaire maintaining a close bond with his father, businessman Adedeji Adeleke.
Davido said Dangote’s influence on him also extended to financial matters, noting that the businessman had consistently encouraged him to save and manage his earnings responsibly from childhood.
“Anytime I see him, he still tells me, ‘David, save your money.’ He’s been saying that since I was a baby,” he said.
The “Fall” crooner explained that the advice has remained valuable as he has built his career and accumulated wealth in the entertainment industry.
Davido also offered a different perspective on wealthy individuals, saying billionaires are ordinary people despite their enormous financial resources and that their lifestyles are often unlike the public perception of them.
He further stressed that his connection with Dangote was not a recent development, but one that began during his childhood and has continued into his adult life.
