…Sets up Committee to probe NNPC GMD

From: FRED ITUA, Abuja

Barely 24 hours after Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, accused the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Kacalla Baru,  of insubordination in a memo to the President, the Senate has constituted a committee to probe the oil company.

Senate President Bukola Saraki, while announcing the composition of the committee, which is to be headed by Sen. Aliu Wamakko, said the contents of the letter, reportedly written to President Muhammadu Buhari by Kachikwu, must be investigated.

The committee is also expected to probe another claim that the Baru singlehandedly awarded a contract to a company, worth billions of dollars, despite its lack of capacity to handle such.
