Stakeholders in the agricultural sector have been urged to adopt technology-driven solutions to ensure food sufficiency.
The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Agricultural Development Authority (LSADA), in a statement at the weekend, said the call was made during a pre-season training for the stakeholders at the Women’s Development Centre, Agege, Lagos.
The training programme, which brought together agricultural extension agents, representatives of farmers’ groups and other key players, was themed, “AI-Powered Urban Agriculture in Lagos State: Enhancing Agricultural Extension Services for Increased Food Production.”
In his welcome address, LSADA Project Manager, Aliru Alade, emphasised the importance of the annual training as a platform to build the capacity of field officers and stakeholders in preparation for the upcoming farming season.
Represented by the Director of Rural Institution Development, Aderonke Toju-Tubi, the project manager noted that the theme reflected the state government’s progressive vision to leverage technology for transforming agriculture within Lagos’ dynamic urban environment.
“This initiative aims to equip our farmers with cutting-edge knowledge and modern techniques that will significantly improve both the quality and quantity of agricultural output across the state,” he said.
Alade also acknowledged the consistent support of the State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, noting that his strategic policy direction continues to propel farmer-centric initiatives in the state. In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture and Food Systems, Oluwarotimi Fashola, described the training as an opportunity to strengthen the agricultural backbone of the state, its farmers and extension workers.
