Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has assured residents that phase two of the Adiyan Water Works project will be completed within the next 10 to 12 months, providing a significant boost to the state’s water supply capacity.

The project, when completed, will supply 70 million gallons of water daily to meet the growing demand of Lagosians for clean and reliable water.

Governor Sanwo-Olu made this commitment during a working visit to the Adiyan Water Works site, where he was accompanied by his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat.

The governor expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the ongoing construction, revealing that the project is currently 80% complete.

He further emphasised his administration’s unwavering determination to ensure the timely completion of the project before the end of his tenure.

“We remain committed to fulfilling our promise of providing Lagosians with better access to potable water,” Governor Sanwo-Olu said during the visit.

He acknowledged the cooperation of residents in the areas surrounding the construction site, which has contributed significantly to the smooth progress of the project.

The governor assured that once completed, the Adiyan Water Works would vastly improve the socio-economic conditions of residents by enhancing their access to clean water, thereby improving their overall quality of life.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also highlighted the government’s plans to further enhance the Independent Power Project (IPP) in Akute, which will provide a steady power supply to the water works, ensuring its efficient operation once completed.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving the water supply infrastructure in Lagos.

Wahab emphasised that providing residents with access to adequate pipe-borne water remains one of the administration’s key priorities. He noted that the Adiyan Water Works project aligns with the state’s long-term vision to provide sustainable water sources for Lagosians.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Water Corporation, Mukhtaar Tijani, also expressed his gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s team for their continuous support and for prioritising the project. He assured that the contractor would complete the remaining works on schedule and within the stipulated timeline.

The Adiyan Water Works project, which began in 2013, was initially awarded in 2012. Once completed, the project will significantly reduce the water supply challenges faced by Lagosians, providing an additional 70 million gallons of water per day, which is expected to cater to the needs of millions of residents across the state. The completion of phase two will be a crucial milestone in the state’s efforts to address water scarcity and improve the living standards of its growing population.
