Former House of Representatives member Farah Dagogo has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the forthcoming election in Rivers State.

Dagogo secured a landslide victory in the party’s direct primaries conducted across the 319 wards in the 23 local government areas of the state, polling 64,700 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sokonte Davies, who scored 9,050 votes.

Chairman of the ADC Rivers State Governorship Primary Electoral Committee, Agu Bryan, announced the result in the presence of committee members and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Bryan said the exercise was conducted in line with the party’s guidelines, declaring Dagogo winner after he fulfilled all requirements.

Reacting to his emergence, Dagogo described the victory as one for all members of the ADC and residents of Rivers State yearning for a better future.

He thanked party leaders and members for the confidence reposed in him, noting that the contest produced “no victor and no vanquished”, but partners united by a common vision for the state.

The ADC candidate called on Rivers people to embrace unity, inclusiveness and collective responsibility, stressing that the mission ahead was to build a secure, functional and economically viable state.

Dagogo also pledged to build on the achievements of past administrations, including those of former governors Alfred Diete-Spiff, Ada George, Peter Odili, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Nyesom Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

He promised to run an issue-based campaign centred on security, education, youth empowerment, job creation, healthcare delivery and economic development, while ruling out mudslinging and divisive politics.
