Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has commended the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for the outstanding role it played during the conduct of the 2023 general elections, saying the National Youth Service Corp deserves commendation for serving the nation as an unbiased umpire during the elections.
Governor Fintiri made this known while declaring the Batch B stream One camp opened at the Damare Permanent NYSC camp over the weekend in Yola, Adamawa state.
Gov. Fintiri said, “It is my great pleasure to address you on this auspicious occasion of your official induction into the National Youth Service Corps Scheme. I heartily welcome you aboard the ship of nation-building.
“Congratulations on your successful graduation from your respective institutions of learning which qualified you for mobilization into this noble scheme.
“No doubt, the success was borne out of hard work, perseverance, discipline and focus and it is my earnest expectation that you will bring these sterling qualities to bear in the course of the Orientation Programme and by extension the service year.
“I wish to use this opportunity to commend the entire members of the NYSC scheme for not only being the unbiased electoral umpires they are known for but also for their contributions to the success of the 2023 General Elections. This underscores their integrity, patriotic spirits and unshaken loyalty to the Nigerian project.
“Let me seize this opportunity to once again celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the NYSC Scheme. At 50, the NYSC is indeed worth celebrating and its relevance is more glaring in view of their enormous contributions to our national unity and integration as well as the socio-economic development of our dear country.
“This underscores our faith in the Scheme, particularly you the corps members, as our strategic partners in the execution of our people-oriented policies and programmes, particularly as regards education, healthcare, agriculture and rural development. In this vein, I once again appreciate the scheme for recognizing me as the Most NYSC Friendly Governor and Adamawa as the Most NYSC Friendly State.”
Fintiri adds that “I must at this juncture commend you for not only accepting your postings in good faith but also for the courage and sacrifice to leave the comfort of your various homes to come and serve your Fatherland in Adamawa State.
“For this, on behalf of the hospitable, accommodating and peace loving people of my dear State, you are most welcome to the Land of Beauty and Sunshine.
“It is now my pleasure to declare the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 Orientation Course for corps members deployed to Adamawa State Open.”
Speaking at the occasion, state Coordinator of the NYSC in Adamawa state, Jingi Dennis said, Corp members have been contributing socio-economic development of the state saying over 90% of corp members in the state are posted to schools to help in the educational development of the state.
Dennis said, “The service year is a time for the cross-fertilisation of ideas and learning, I enjoin you to share and learn new ideas that would build on your moral values.
“We currently have about six hundred and sixty seven (667) corp members on the ground with about four hundred and sixteen males and two hundred and sixty one (261) females and we are expecting a total of about one thousand five hundred corp members in the camp.”
Jingi task the corp members to be law-abiding and committed to their service to their fatherland.
Highlights of the occasion included a parade display and a thug of war competition show by the Man O’ War organisation.
