The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) has raised fresh concerns over the growing circulation of substandard and counterfeit medicines in the country, warning that the menace poses grave risks to public health and safety.

Speaking during a press conference at the association’s office in Lagos, the National Chairman, Pharm. Ezeh Ambrose Igwekamma, described the Pharmacy Rx emblem as a powerful symbol of assurance and trust for Nigerians seeking genuine healthcare. He officially declared October as Pharmacy Rx Emblem Month, a move aimed at promoting public awareness and strengthening the role of community pharmacists in the nation’s healthcare delivery system.

“It gives me great honour and joy to stand before you today as we formally declare this month as Pharmacy Rx Emblem Month,” he said. “This special designation is not just symbolic but a bold statement reaffirming the central role of community pharmacy in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our people.”

Igwekamma explained that the Rx emblem is globally recognized as a mark of trust, professionalism, and healing. By dedicating October to its promotion, the ACPN seeks to showcase community pharmacies as safe and reliable healthcare hubs where patients can confidently access authentic medicines, professional advice, and comprehensive health services.

He lamented that counterfeit and substandard medicines continue to endanger lives across the country, urging Nigerians to rely on community pharmacies displaying the Rx emblem for quality and safety.

“In an era where fake and substandard medicines threaten public safety, the Rx emblem stands as a beacon of assurance and authenticity, guiding patients to where professionalism and quality are guaranteed,” he stressed.

The ACPN boss noted that community pharmacies are more than mere dispensing outlets; they serve as vital healthcare touchpoints offering expert guidance, preventive care, and wellness support at the grassroots.

“Let us use this month to tell our story boldly — that community pharmacy remains the most accessible healthcare facility for millions of Nigerians,” he added.

He called on government agencies, healthcare stakeholders, and the public to support community pharmacists in their mission to provide quality healthcare and build safer, healthier communities.

“Together, let us make the Rx emblem shine as a trusted guide to safe medicines, professional care, and healthier living,” Igwekamma concluded.

The ACPN reiterated its commitment to empowering community pharmacists and protecting Nigerians through quality, accessible, and ethical healthcare services.
