Osun election: APC, PDP file petitions to challenge Adeleke’s victory

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have challenged the declaration of Governor Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.

The petitions were pasted in front of the Election Petition Tribunal at the State High Court, Osogbo, on Monday.

In the petition filed by Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji and the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the petition was brought pursuant to Sections 134, 137, 138, 139, 140, 143 and 149 of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the First Schedule thereto.

A copy of the Certified True Copy (CTC), dated 5/9/26 and obtained by our correspondent on Monday, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, reads:

“The petitioner being dissatisfied with the declaration and return of the 1st respondent as the winner of the governorship election conducted in Osun State on the 15th day of August, 2026, hereby presents this petition and states as follows:

“The 1st petitioner, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, an adult, Nigerian citizen, and the candidate of the 2nd petitioner at the governorship election conducted in Osun State on the 15th day of August 2026.”

Also, in the petition filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the petitioner challenged INEC, Accord Party and Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke.

The CTC obtained by our correspondent, dated 5/9/26 and marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, reads:

“This is the petition of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) whose name is herein subscribed and hereinafter referred to as petitioner.

“The petitioner is a political party duly registered in Nigeria, and was the political party that sponsored Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola as its candidate for the Osun State governorship election conducted in Osun State on 15th August, 2026.”

In the governorship election, the logo of the PDP was conspicuously absent on the ballot.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party was declared winner of the Osun State governorship election, having polled 511,067 votes.

He was declared winner by the Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole.

Bola Oyebamiji of the APC polled 444,815 votes to come second, while Hon. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) got 17,180 votes.
