Nollywood actress Mo Bimpe has pushed back against social media users who questioned her interaction with actor Jide Awobona after a video of the pair at a recent movie premiere sparked online debate.
The brief clip, recorded during the September 2, 2026 premiere of A Mama Deola Wedding Story in Lagos, showed Mo Bimpe seated between Awobona and her husband, actor Lateef Adedimeji.
In the video, the actress was seen resting her head on Awobona’s shoulder while both appeared focused on something on her phone.
The seemingly casual moment drew the attention of some social media users, who scrutinised the interaction and speculated about Adedimeji’s reaction. Some viewers suggested that the actor appeared uncomfortable, leading to discussions about appropriate boundaries between married people and friends.
Responding to the criticism on her Instagram Story on Sunday, Mo Bimpe questioned why a simple interaction between friends had been interpreted negatively.
She maintained that marriages are not necessarily defined by suspicion, restrictions or constant monitoring, stressing that trust and mutual confidence can also form the foundation of a healthy relationship.

“Not every marriage is built on fear, insecurity, and constant monitoring. Some marriages are built on trust, friendship, respect, and confidence,” she said.
The actress added that the reaction to the video reflected the kind of relationships some of her critics may be accustomed to rather than the reality of her own marriage.
“The fact that so many of you found that interaction strange says more about the relationships you’re used to than it does about mine,” she said.
Mo Bimpe further rejected the suggestion that her marriage was threatened by her friendship with Awobona, describing her husband as a secure man.
“Not every marriage is toxic, there are still healthy marriages but I understand if you can’t relate. My husband is a secure man, a brief conversation with a family friend does not threaten our marriage, or require anyone’s concern,” she added.
