Sometime in November last year, Ukomadu Chinuike Emmanuel, a 34-year-old engineer, was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver.
The graduate of Electrical/Electronic Engineering has since then been bedridden as a result of a spinal cord injury which he sustained in the accident
Before the incident, Ukomadu worked at Setraco Nigeria Ltd, in Abuja, and was running a Masters programme in Power Systems Electrical Electronic Engineering.
At the moment, he is on admission at the male neuro-surgical ward, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH), Ile-Ife, Osun State. He was referred to the teaching hospital from the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Enugu.
After undergoing a second surgery at the hospital, the doctors declared that for him to walk again, any further cure could only be possible overseas.
One of his siblings, Mr. Cyril Ukomadu who spoke on Ukomadu’s condition said correspondences have been made with health facilities in Canada and India for further treatment.
According to him, all arrangements have been reached with a hospital in India where a surgery and rehabilitation would be carried out on Ukomadu at the sun of N15 million.
“We are now seeking help from well-meaning Nigerians to enable us foot his medical cost, so that he may walk again,” Cyril Ukomadu said.
