…Threaten to Arrest Event Organizers without Clearance
From Abdulrazaq Mungadi, Gombe
The Gombe State of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has urged event center owners, planners, and celebrants across the state to seek clearance from security agencies in the state to ensure better security and their safety.
According to the agency, the move is in a bid to improve security at events and gatherings in the state. This was stated by the state Commandant of the corps, Muhammad Bello Muazu. He explained that the move is fueled by the recent rise of security concerns at gatherings such as weddings, conferences, and concerts.
Addressing newsmen on Saturday in his office, Muazu explained the NSCDC believes that enhanced security measures can go a long way in preventing unfortunate incidents. He said, “Just recently we stumbled on a group of youths who gathered at an event center in the name of celebrating a birthday, but their actual plan was to hold a same-sex marriage. Therefore, we are calling on the owners of such event centers to report upcoming events and gatherings to the NSCDC, Police, or the State Security Service (SSS) to get clearance and avoid giving out their facilities for crime to be perpetrated”.
The Commandant emphasized the need for event organizers to take security seriously, according to him, seeking clearance would help in ensuring their safety. He said, “The organizers and celebrants can have good faith and end up being victims of crime at their event and celebration”.
He added saying, “Event centers, planners, and celebrants need to recognize the importance of security at gatherings. It is not enough to rely on the peaceful nature of Gombe state or believe that they are celebrating with friends and family members. We have a lot of bad eggs in our midst.
He continued, “By seeking clearance from any of the security agencies in the state, event organizers can be assured that the necessary security measures are in place”.
Muazu announced that his officers and men would soon be deployed across the state to ensure security at events and gatherings. He added that organizers who do not seek the clearance would be arrested for endangering themselves and their guests. “Their events could be used to jeopardize security situation and the peaceful coexistence being enjoyed in the state”.
“By working together and supporting the NSCDC and other security agencies in Gombe state, we can ensure that our events and gatherings are safe and enjoyable for everyone involved. It would also strengthen our security situation,” the Commandant stated.
