Engr. Enyinnaya Chima Nwafor (Nana), the gubernatorial candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) has polled 145,991 votes to top Okey Ahiwe of the PDP (28,676 votes) , Greg Ibe of APGA (18,695) and other candidates in an online poll organised by NIGERIANS DECIDE, a diaspora group based in the United States of America (USA).
The Poll which sought to answer the question “Who should be the Governor of Abia State in 2023”, targeted Abia online voters and lasted for 60 days. Engr. Nwafor scored 65% of the votes cast online, diminishing the popularity of the ruling PDP in the State, APGA and Alex Otti of the Labour Party who shared the remaining 35% of votes with other governorship candidates.
At the close of poll, Engr. Nwafor of the YPP polled 145,991 votes representing 65% of the 224, 215 votes cast. Okey Ahiwe of the People’s Democratic Party trailed behind with 28, 676 votes (12%) while Greg Ibe of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Alex Otti of the Labour Party polled 18,695 (8%) and 18,686 (8%) respectively. The remaining 7% of the votes were shared between Ikechi Emenike ( APC), Johnson – Ogbuneke Gladys N. (SDP) and others.
Most commentators ascribed Engr. Nwafor’s landslide victory to his issue – based campaign targeting the grassroots and the ability to demonstrate clear cut understanding of Abia’s challenges and proffering measurable and achievable solutions to these challenges.
With this latest poll results, Abians seem set to give YPP a chance to take over the realms of power in the State.
The construction giant is believed to have visible ties with the State with major chunk of his investments domiciled in the State, employing Abians and being at home with majority of the citizens who have equally benefitted from the benevolence championed by his pet Each One Aid One Foundation.
