The Commissioner for Police in Benue state, CP Ifeanyi Emenari has stated that the command has deployed security officers across schools in the state to prevent security breach of abduction of students in Benue
The Police Commissioner stated this while speaking to newsmen in his office in Makurdi.
He noted that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has already given directives to all the commissioners to make sure that the schools among other public places are secured.
He said “Even before then, we have posted security men to all the boarding schools in the state, especially girls’ boarding schools.
“As we speak now, we have directed all our divisional police officers to keep on patrolling the schools, visiting them, and making sure that the principals have the police number, the DPO’s number, so that if anything happens, they have to call the police.
He said the command is also working in synergy with the Commissioner for Education in the state who have organized a program to train teachers and the students on what to do if anything happens, especially getting in contact with the police.
He said the police through its school protection unit have already been circulating their phone numbers to schools, urging school managements to be on alert and report any suspicious person or movements around their school premises
He “So we have our schools properly covered, and we encourage every principal, every headmaster, every headteacher to make sure that he has the phone number of the nearest divisional police officer”.
