The Chairman of Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State, Mrs Amina Audu, who was abducted with her driver has been released after four days in captivity.

Recall that suspended chairman and her driver were abducted on Monday, November 13, 2023, by gunmen suspected to be armed herdsmen along Naka-Makurdi road.

Audu who spoke to our newsmen on phone on Friday said they were released by their captors on Thursday between 7:00 and 8:00pm.

Narrating her, Mrs Audu said that they were fed with pawpaw and garri while they were in custody of the kidnappers.

The visibly shaken Audu said, “You know how harrowing it is to be with kidnappers, I cannot even say much now.”

Asked what were they fed with for the four days, she said, “They (kidnappers) don’t have food in the bush, they only gave us pawpaw and garri to drink.

Mrs Audu could not give the actual amount the kidnappers collected as ransom saying “I cannot say because I have not discussed that with those who negotiated our release.

Naka/Makurdi road has become notorious for kidnapping activities carried out by bandits masquerading as herdsmen.

It could also be noted that last weekend, gunmen suspected to be herdsmen attacked a Benue Links vehicle and kidnapped 15 passengers. Nothing has been heard about them as at the time of writing this report.
