From Okey Sampson, Umuahia

The abducted Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) of Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), Prof Godwin Emezue has regained his freedom after his family was said to have paid N25m ransom.

Prof Emezue was kidnapped on January 26 inside a fuelling Station in Umuahia and taken to an unknown destination by his abductors who later place a N35m ransom on him.

The hoodlums were said to have later reduced the amount to N25m.

It was gathered that the family had initially given the hoodlums N5m, they got Infuriated and threatened to kill the DVC if the N25m was not paid.

“The Kidnappers who had shown footages of how they tortured the Professor threatened to kill him if the family fails to pay additional N20million before the end of Saturday”, a source hinted.

The source further said the family rallied and raised the money and handed it over to the abductors who claimed they had instructions to the DVC, but would not want to do that in the spirit of the New Year.

Prof Emezue was released Tuesday night after spending 11days in the hands of his abductors.

He is reported to be currently hospitalised in an undisclosed health facility as a result of the torture he received from his captors.
