Gunmen have reportedly kidnapped the owner of Hezbollah shopping Mall Samuel Ekerenam in Eket local government area , killed his driver while the police officer escaped with various degrees of injuries.
Daily Sun gathered that the incident occurred last weekend at about 10 pm when staff working at the mall were about to close their sales .
An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said the Gunmen intercepted the victim and started shooting sporadically to scare residents of the area and killed the driver on the spot before the owner of the mall was whisked away leaving the police officer in the pool of his blood .
He said the gunmen trailed the shop owner from his house and intercepted him in the business premises where he went to close the day’s transactions with his workers
” It was surprise to everybody when we heard the gun shots . Nobody went out to rescue . We don’t know how his police escort though seriously wounded escaped”
Family sources stated that the mission of the gunmen is unknown as they could establish contact with them to know whether they came for ransom .
” Three days after the ugly incident, the family could not establish contact with the suspected kidnappers . We don’t know the fate of the victim till now .
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Akwa Ibom ASP Timfon John said the police is on top of the situation .
” The Police Commissioner CP Joseph Eribo has zero tolerance for crimes and he had since deployed tactical operatives to comb for the abducted man” She said
