President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has placed access, quality, technical education, digital learning, teacher development and student financing at the heart of its education agenda.
A defining feature of this approach is the shift from a certificate-driven system to one that emphasizes skills, innovation, technology, and employability.
This is particularly relevant to Katsina and the wider northern region, where young people need practical competencies to thrive in a rapidly changing economy.
Strengthening basic education
At the foundational level, reports indicate that Katsina has benefited from interventions aimed at improving infrastructure and teaching quality.
Hundreds of classrooms have been rehabilitated, while new schools and facilities are being established across the state.
In May 2026, the Katsina State government announced a ₦6.1 billion school improvement grant for 110 schools, targeting classrooms, sanitation and potable water.
For children and parents, these investments translate into safer, more conducive learning environments. Teacher quality remains central to progress.
Thousands of teachers have undergone training in modern pedagogy, classroom management and structured teaching methods.

Expanding tertiary education

Such investments are vital for universities, polytechnics and colleges to produce the skilled workforce Nigeria requires. Equally important is technical and vocational education.
Nigeria’s unemployment challenge cannot be solved by producing graduates alone. Young people need marketable skills in areas such as modern agriculture, IT, electrical installation, fabrication, tailoring, automobile repairs, and renewable energy. These pathways foster economic independence and job creation.
Financing and digital learning
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund provides crucial financial assistance, enabling students from less privileged backgrounds to pursue higher education.
For many, this support marks the difference between dropping out and graduating. Digital education is another pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
As Nigeria advances towards a digital economy, Katsina must expand connectivity, strengthen digital literacy and ensure rural students are not left behind.
